Nous aurons le plaisir de recevoir Cristina TERRA (Université de Cergy) , qui présentera : “Current Account and Real Exchange Rate changes: the impact of Trade Openness” avec Davide Romelli et Enrico Vasconcelos.
Abstract: This article investigates the impact of trade openness on the relationship between trade balance and real exchange rates, during sudden stops and abrupt changes in the real exchange rate. Using data for developed and emerging economies for the period 1970–2011, we find that more open economies are hit by a lower shock in the real exchange rate during sudden stops. We also provide evidence that, during abrupt real exchange rate depreciation episodes, economies that are more open to trade experience higher changes in the trade balance.
