Nous aurons le plaisir de recevoir Pierre Boyer (University of Mannheim) , qui présentera un article co-écrit avec Felix Bierbrauer : “Political competition under asymmetric information”.
Abstract : We study political competition under the assumption that voters have private information about their policy preferences. Specifically, we look at the workhorse model of mechanism design theory: Voters have quasi-linear utility functions and their preferences exhibit independent private values. As a main result, we show that equilibrium policies are ex post efficient. The ex post efficiency result would not hold under conditions of complete information. Hence, with political competition, private information is good for efficiency. This is in contrast to the conventional wisdom that incentive compatibility is an additional constraint that makes it harder to obtain efficient outcomes.
