Berk Öktem joined RITM, Université Paris-Saclay in September 2025 as an Assistant Professor of Economics.

Before that, he was a postdoctoral fellow at PSAE, INRAE, working on climate change adaptation in the agricultural sector in France and Europe. He completed his PhD in Bayonne at the University of Pau et des Pays de l’Adour (2020–2024), where he studied land use, deforestation, and biodiversity in Mexico and France, and where he also fell in love with the Basque Country.

His research sits at the intersection of development, environmental, and agricultural economics. Using econometric analysis with a strong focus on causal inference, he enjoys taking an interdisciplinary approach and combining data from different fields and sources.

Outside academia, Berk is passionate about running and loves discovering Paris one run at a time.
