The RITM is pleased to be part of GRIFS – Geoeconomics Risks, Innovation and Firm Strategies, a new three-year research project led by Flora Bellone (GREDEG-Université Côte d’Azur), laureate of a €450,000 research grant awarded by the French National Agency for Research (ANR). The project brings together researchers from three universities and research centers: Université Côte d’Azur (GREDEG), Université de Tours (LEO), and Université Paris-Saclay (RITM).

GRIFS will investigate how firms adapt their strategies to rising geopolitical risks and uncertainty, with particular attention to innovation. Growing geopolitical tensions can have contrasting effects on firms: uncertainty may discourage investment in R&D, but it may also stimulate defensive and strategic innovation, as firms seek to reduce vulnerabilities, strengthen their autonomy, and secure their value chains. Beyond innovation, the project will examine the broader economic consequences of firms’ responses to geopolitical instability and polarization. How do firms reorganize their activities when geopolitical risks increase? How are their innovation and investment decisions affected? And what are the resulting consequences for employment and economic growth?

The project will mobilize the expertise of five RITM researchers and PhD students working on international economics, innovation, firms, and related issues, Matthieu Crozet, Anne Plunket, Felipe Starosta de Waldemar, Nathan Chevalier, and Anna Farrugia.
